One of three fab Italian restaurants in Sevilla run by the GMI (Gusto Made in Italy) Group, Pane & Vino is a charming traditional-style trattoria that offers some terrific central Italian dishes along with genuinely helpful and friendly service. I’m definitely going back for more cannelloni and also want to try one of their pizzas next time.

Andalusian Japanese Peruvian Fusion

The latest culinary coup by the Puratasca team is already a hit in pijo Porvenir. An intriguing fusion of Nikkei (Japanese-Peruvian), Asian and Spanish cuisines, with a few favourites brought over from the tasca, gives a nice range of flavours that is complemented by an interesting selection of lesser known wines. There is no fixed menu – the blackboard changes depending on what is fresh at the market – and the dishes are served as a one-size “large tapa” rather than the usual tapas/raciones option. The decor reflects Cayetano’s fascination with the 70′s, but this time we are in “the office” surrounded by manual typewriters, metal filing cabinets and other clerical chachkas. My only complaint is that the service could be friendlier, or even friendly, but perhaps that will improve with time.

I now have three favourite Italian restaurants in Sevilla. The other two are Porta Rossa and L’Oca Giuliva. Maccheroni & Co have just moved from their calle Harinas location into new chic digs on the up and coming Garcia de Vinuesa, which is filling up with gourmet food and wine shops and trendy boutiques. One lunch visit (so far – I will definitely be back) was very pleasant, with great service and gorgeous food. So stay tuned for more fab food photos. Until then, just go and take your pick from a nicely varied selection of salads, pastas and pizzas. You’ll also find some interesting fish and meat dishes. Buon appetito!

Located just off the Alameda and a few doors down the street from its sister bar Duo Tapas, Sidonia has a more casual menu and the same great wine list. There's a good selection of well-priced tapas, including gnocchi, risotto and Iberian pork dishes, as well as salads and pizzas. Nice bohemian atmosphere with colourful decor and paintings by local artists.

I was happily surprised to find that Al Solito Posto opens for breakfast at their great new location in the recently renovated Plaza de las Pescaderías, and was even happier when I tasted their coffee. Excellent. I have visited their beachside restaurant in Zahara de los Atunes and the food there is very good. Likewise here. Okay, the pancetta could have been somewhat less fatty and the pizza might have had a bit more chorizo, but overall Al Solito Posto is a very pleasant place to drop in for a meal, either inside or out on the terrace. Lots of pasta and risotto dishes available too, as well as some very good Italian wines. The service is attentive, friendly and efficient.

The original location on Pastor y Landero had a wonderfully cosy ambiance, which has been maintained in these larger and brighter new digs just around the corner. The owners are still very ‘hands-on’ and give the place a very personal quality that is sometimes missing in Sevilla. All the pasta is made on the premises, all ingredients are as fresh as can be.

Personal favourites include the rocket salad, mixed cheese & cured meat plates and a wonderful ravioli stuffed with pinenuts & seta mushrooms and served in a cream sauce with nutmeg (it tastes like Christmas!). The beef tenderloin in a black peppercorn and vodka sauce is divine. Be sure to call ahead and reserve a table.

Patito means “little duck” in Spanish. And with a slight change in spelling it can also be a slangy play on words … pati tó = para ti, todo (for you, everything). This very popular, small & cosy French-themed bar is just off the calle Feria. French wines, cheeses and pâtés are on offer. An excellent way to start off an evening of “tapearing”, or a nice place to stop off for a late evening snack. Great ambiance.

El Badaluque specialises in meat cooked “a la parrilla” (Argentinian barbeque), and also offers an interesting variety of salads and starters, including a selection of vegetarian options. Short & sweet wine menu offers two hearty reds and a full-bodied chardonnay at sensible prices.

A small and cosy bar/restaurant inside, and quite an ample terrace outside. The service is not only friendly and efficient, but we were made to feel quite at home. And after meeting the owner, Gabrielle, we understood why there was such a special and welcoming ambiance there.
