the austrian design studio alleswirdgut architektur designed a festival grounds in st. margarethen, austria
inside an old rock quarry. the project covers a vast surface area and spans from the top of the quarry to
the bottom. the design features a large series of walkways and bridges which start at the top of the quarry
and wind their way down to the main festival space. the zigzagging form creates a unique elevation
thanks to the rusted metal siding on the paths railings. angular stilts raise the walkway on uneven terrain,
jutting out from the ground like tree branches. the warm rust colour of the design contrasts with the light
coloured stone inside the quarry, while the precise design is inspired by the mining techniques that
originally created the space.
