I work across the street from the Grey Dog's Coffee on University and it is possibly my favorite lunch place in Manhattan. Great sandwiches (try the challah bread you won't be disappointed). I little pricey but definitely worth it for the size and quality of the food. And a vast majority of the employees are quite attractive, so that's always a draw. There are two locations (one in the west village and one close to Union Square). It gets really crowded so I wouldn't suggest going with a large group.

I'd have to say I doubted Kate a bit when she raved about Raj. Boy was I proven wrong. After accidentally walking into Taj, Taj Mahal, and Raj (all on the same street, one after another of course), I finally found my friends at Raj. PLEASE go for your birthday. Or just say it's your birthday. I'm still trying to find the Old McDonald techno remix on itunes....it's really that good.

Think coffee is cool because of free wireless and pretty good drinks. Think coffee is not cool because it is severely overpriced (small iced coffee is over 2 dollars for only about 10 ounces). If you want something else overpriced but a little less hip, head to down a few blocks to Aroma Espresso Bar on Houston and Mercer.
