adding or saving places and services

When you decide to save a place or service to your 11870.com page there are two possibilities: one is that it’s already been saved and we have the data for it, so all you’ll have to do is add it to your page. If, however, you’re the first to save it (you’ve “discovered” it) then there’ll be a couple of intermediate steps before the place is finally added to your page.

How to add a place that isn’t on 11870.com yet: click on “add service“, on the upper right-hand corner of the page.

saving a service - the form page

When you save or edit a place to your 11870.com page, you’ll be directed to a form page. This is where you add information about the place. You can always come back to this page later and edit, add or remove information.

At the top of the page there’s an option to “just save”.

But there’s a lot more you can do than just save… provide information you know about the place or classify it to keep your page organized, for example.

whether to comment or not

When you save a place or service to your page you can choose whether to write a review or not, it’s your call. But remember, your two cents might be worth a lot more to someone else. :) What you say will probably help others make better choices and discover new things. And it’s not just good karma… it’s fun too!

some guidelines for adding and reviewing

What type of “places” and “services” can be added to 11870.com? Basically any enterprise offering products or services to people, whether it’s through a website or through a particular venue. We don’t consider blogs, directories, flea-markets, fairs, festivals, congresses, events… to fall into this category, but we think the companies that organize them do.

What to do if you see offensive content: pictures, videos, text reviews or even a service itself that might violate the terms of use can be reported through the site. Let us know and if this content is offending, we will remove it when necessary.

What to do if you see incorrect information: you can change the objective data for a place or service (name, address, location, phone number, website…), but we can do it for you. When you see something wrong, or if you make a mistake when adding a place yourself, let us know. We’ll appreciate it!

Businesses commenting their own service: if someone wants to promote a service on 11870.com the legitimate way to do it is by creating a business profile… it’s free! We don’t like it when a business promotes itself in sneaky ways… a suspiciously glowing review from a user that hasn’t saved or commented on anything else might even generate distrust for your trust. Honesty is the best policy. As a business owner you should know that creating a profile for your business will make you just as visible and allow you to comment openly about its many good qualities. :-)

Other things to consider when reviewing…

  • It’s senseless to write about other, unrelated, things when reviewing a service.
  • You may write about pros and cons, likes and dislikes, but remember to be responsible, coherent and respectful in your writing. A bad review can be very negative for a business or mislead potential customers. Also consider if you really want to keep track of the places you don’t like.
  • Try not to be offensive or disruptive in your review: when your resort to insult you lose credibility and decrease the value of your opinion in the eyes of other readers. We don’t permit anything that will infringe on a person’s right of privacy or that may constitute an insult to their dignity.
  • Avoid addressing your review to a particular user: 11870.com is to share your opinion about places and services, not people. Whether you want to agree or disagree, think of your review as a means of expressing your opinion about a service instead of a part of a discussion about it.
  • Keep in mind that commentary that is illegal, abusive, obscene, pornographic, defamatory, racist or deceitful, is against the principles of 11870.com and we’ll try to avoid them at any cost.

what to do for a place or service to have a map

If you added something that wasn’t on 11870.com and the map isn’t showing up yet, don’t worry: the system usually places your service on the map with the address you give on the form. Sometimes, the system can’t read the address correctly (not the expected format, data it can’t identify) and it can’t pull up a map right away.

But no worries, there’s a team of people at 11870.com fact-checking and verifying the information for every new service added. If the map doesn’t come up, they assign the necessary coordinates for the place to appear on a map. So it’s just a matter of time for the service you added to appear with a complete profile. Nevertheless, if you want to tell us the map’s not there or there’s some sort of mistake with the location, please do.
