Regular neighborhood bakery. The reg. 50-60 cent bread isn't too good. The baguette and chapata are ok, but cost 1€.

Dive bar + music venue (upstairs). Dark, dirty looking and with all types of questionable characters lurking the shadows or falling off the bar stools. Mix in a bespectacled hipster or two, some skaters and flannel shirts.... top it with the no-smoking policy in the US, and you've got the kind of club I'd like to go back to.

The place to have a big Am. breakfast with eggs, pancakes, bacon, etc. Or veggie stir fry with home fries, grits, juice... Classic diner decor. Fun.

one of my favorite places in DC
A good bookstore (correction: a REALLY good bookstore) with a café, drinks and dining area.
The grilled Portobello mushroom sandwich and is pretty awesome, but the food a tad expensive.
They have a computer with Internet access at the bar, good for the laptop/iPhone-less.

Really excellent gourmet pizza place. Near the Verizon Center in Chinatown. Like most of the nicer Am. restaurants, it's way too dark in there. Ah, but it's smoke free!
