Delicious Venezuelan food II
This is the Brooklyn (Williamsburg) location of the excellent arepas bar in the East Village.
Nice atmosphere and they have what looks like a pretty kickass patio for the warmer months.

Delicious Mexican sandwiches that will make you fat
From the outside Carmelita looks just like any other cheap deli/bodega in New York, but in the back room there is a kitchen, two tables, and a salsa bar. It's a "hole-in-the-wall" in every sense of the expression, and, true to form, it is astonishingly delicious. Their specialty is cemitas, sandwiches that (I think) come from Puebla. The cemitas are about the size of a hamburger and are piled high with your choice of meat (beef, tongue, various pig parts, or especially delicious chorizo), Mexican white cheese, avocados, and various sauces. It is the unholiest of food items and completely addictive. And it's not just the grease/cheese/sauce factor that makes them so alluring; the bread itself is unlike anything I've ever had. It's very soft and kind of spongy and perfect for soaking up the various flavors.
Of the sandwiches I've tried, the chorizo is definitely the best. They also have a quesillo (just cheese) option for vegetarians that is very delicious in its own right.
Carmelita also has soups, tostadas, and, of course, tacos, but the cemitas are the main attraction in my opinion.
The seating is very limited, so most people get their food to go. Cemitas are $6 and they're huuuuge. If you're not that hungry it's definitely big enough to split with someone.

Lively Tex-Mex in South Austin
In Austin there's no shortage of Tex-Mex options, but if you're looking for a full experience Maria's is a good choice. It's pretty kitschy, but it's fun and the food is delicious. They've got breakfast and lunch tacos, plus various entrees like enchiladas and a "meat plate" served with rice and beans.
A warning to any Mexicans not accustomed to Texanized Mexican food (or northern Mexican food): they serve their tacos in flour tortillas, not corn. The taco al pastor is well-seasoned and well-cooked (though I'm a bit ashamed to say that I've had better in South Brooklyn, but still these were very good). The migas taco is also highly recommendable, though it needs a bit of salsa to make it truly perfect.
Like most places in Austin, it's got a great back patio.

Cheap and delicious salvadoran food
A friend of mine took me to this restaurant as a cheaper alternative to Caracas. It's friendly and unpretentious and the pupusas are $2! We got two pupusas each and split a corn cob and dessert and it was a really decent meal. They have a pretty basic pupusa selection, mostly just different combinations of meat, cheese, and beans, although I think my favorite that I tried was jalapeño and cheese. They also have a much more extensive seafood and entree menu. If you're looking for a simple, cheap meal in a pleasant atmosphere this is definitely the way to go.

Delicious Venezuelan food
There's usually a wait (sometimes 10 minutes, sometimes an hour) to eat in at the restaurant, but if you can it's very worth it. It's a great place with a very nice atmosphere and a friendly staff. But there's also the to-go option next door if you can't wait.
They have a great selection of arepas between $4 and $8, as well as empanadas for $4-$5. And they fry the empanadas so they're extra awesome. The food is creative, delicious, and reasonably priced. Also, there are several vegetarian items, and an option to substitute tofu for meat in the arepas.

Pinche!
Not only does this place have a great name, it's also got got great food and it's really cheap. There are 7 options on the taco menu, all between $2-$4. I had a fish taco and a pork taco. They're famous for the fish tacos, but I actually preferred the pork. Note: they use corn tortillas for tacos. I prefer flour (I think that's a Texas thing), but they were still really good.
They also have burritos (meat and vegetarian) made with flour tortillas. Regular burritos are $6.95, and the California bean and cheese burrito is $5.95.
The two best things about Pinche Taqueria are the horchata and the breakfast burritos. Horchata is $2.75 and is quite good. Breakfast burritos are $4.95 for a hefty portion of eggs plus your choice of various meats (including chorizo) or pico de gallo (!) wrapped in a flour tortilla. I got the bacon and egg burrito with salsa and it was delicious.
Also they have Elote (Mexican-style corn on the cob) but it's not quite as good as Cafe Habana's.
It's a really small place and most people get to-go, but there are a few tables and if you can get one it's a pretty fun place to sit down and eat.
Great Yucca fries.

Delicious empanadas
Small, fairly cheap place to get great empanadas quickly. All their empanadas are $4 and they're filling enough for a small meal. I've tried the Argentine beef and spicy chicken empanadas, both of which were pretty tasty, especially the chicken. They have a large selection with lots of vegetarian options.
I definitely recommend it if you're walking around the East Village and looking for a quick meal. It's mainly a to-go place but they've got a few tables and a sort of cozy ambiance that makes it a nice place to sit down for a minute.

Order the corn!
Tiny, tiny restaurant in Nolita. So tiny that you almost always have to wait for a table, but it's worth it. The food is great and the color scheme is very soothing (to me, at least). I usually get the Tlacoyo de Tres Marias and ALWAYS an order of the Mexican-style corn, which is what they're famous for. It's corn on the cob smothered in butter, Mexican cheese, and chili powder and it's incredible. Do NOT go there without ordering the corn.
Also, it's expensive, so I only go once every few months. But it's definitely a cool place with great food!
