Excellent tacos
Kate Richardson lo descubrió en marzo de 2009
Mexican food in New York is a touchy subject with many people (myself included), so I would never casually suggest that I'd found excellent tacos in New York. But yes, I did find them in Sunset Park. And they cost $1.25 each.
I got three tacos (they're pretty small)--carnitas, al pastor, and carne asada, and all three were extremely tasty and well cooked. They have lots of options on the taco menu, including lengua (tongue). Also, it's pretty big and very clean and generally a nice place to sit and eat (good music, friendly waiters, etc.).
Another great thing about this place is that it's BYOB and there's a convenience store down the block that sells 24 oz. cans of Modelo Especial for $2.50, so you can pick one of those up, then get three tacos and have a meal and drinks for less than $10.

MoMA in Queens
Kate Richardson lo descubrió en enero de 2009
P.S. 1 is an extension of the Museum of Modern Art. It's in Queens right on the border with North Brooklyn (one stop past the Greenpoint stop on the G train). It's a great facility with a lot of character and both times I've been they've had fantastic modern art exhibits/installations.
Definitely a great supplemental or alternative activity to the Manhattan museums; it's got excellent content and it's far less crowded and stressful. Plus the admission is a suggested donation, so it's not as much of a financial drain as the main MoMA.
