excellent home-made food
The place is very old and not very nice, but the food is great and the people who work there too. The food is traditional home-made food. They have a lunch menu for 9€.
international evenings
This is a very interesting place, it normally has international parties, in which many young people from madrid willing to meet foreingers, and many foreingers willing to meet local people go. The best one is on Wednesdays, organised by Madrid Babel.

The tapas they give you with your drink are usually quite good, and the drinks are not at all expensive. You can also have some side-dishes which are also good. It's a good place to have a drink before dinner, or even to have dinner based on these side-dishes.

very good home-made traditional food
It's a very small restaurant in the district of Chueca. They have only the typical traditional grandmother spanish dishes, but they make them really well. It is called "Tienda de Vinos" (wine shop) but it is known as "El Comunista" (the communist) for its red facade. Having lunch there costs around 10 € (can cost less, or more, depending on what you order)
