Caldo castizo
Buen caldo, buen jerez y buenas cosas para picar.
Pero sobre todo es un muy buen lugar para ver lo que es francamente Madrileño.
Las señoras con abrigos de piel que han estado tomando sus caldos en el mismo lugar por toda la vida y los señores que van allí para tomar el aperitivo antes de ir al teatro o opera. Aunque el fundador era francés es un lugar que pertenece al corazón de Madrid.
La pastelería (done sirven el caldo) tiene horario de tienda:
de 9.30 a 15 y de 17 a 21.30 h. (Cerrado : D noche)

A somewhat complicated system rules the day in regard to the soup.
You must get it yourself. You will find the copper dispenser in the far left corner, and next to it to the right is a shelf of sherry which you can add. There are snacks in a glass case to the left of the consomé. You pay when you leave at the cash register next to the door. It's a trust system, you tell them what you had and pay accordingly. A consomé is 2€, add sherry and it is 2.5€.
Opening hours: 9:30 - 15:00 and 17:00 - 21:30 (closed sunday evening).

Un buen bar para ver Lavapies desde arriba y tomar algo abajo de las estrellas. Si hace frío hay espacio dentro también, pero el alma del café es la terraza. También si hace frío recomiendo las "berenjenas y calabacines a la malagueña, con miel de romero" que los hacen muy bien.

Encontré este lugar buscando bares con chimeneas en Madrid. Hay una chimenea, pero nunca encendida. Bueno, el lugar esta normalmente caliente y es un buen bar para escapar de un día de frió. Creo que los dueños son extranjeros y la camarera pone copas grandes. También, aunque esta muy cerca del centro de La Latina casi siempre hay por lo menos una mesa libre.
I found this place while I was searching for fireplaces during winter. They have one, but it turns out that they do not use it. However, it's a nice place and quite warm. Great to pass a cold day. The owners are foreign and the bartender serves a big measure. Another good thing is that you can almost always find a table.
Reina Sofia café
No esta mal, buen lugar para tomar un café, leer el periódico (tienen todos) y escapar la locura de los domingos, además en los domingos el museo esta gratis.

A nice cafe next to the Reina Sofia. Great place to spend a sunday morning before or after visiting the museum (it's free on Sundays).
