Poli Foreber
Stepping into Casa Polí is like entering a time warp. You are transported from a well healed street in an expensive area, back into 70s. Old school to the max, even the air smells like it's hasn't changed in thirty years (no joke, you'll smell like a croqueta when you leave). Open all hours, service with a smile/grunt depending on which watier you get and, great food! The patatas bravas are excellent, tostada de jamon superb, and champiñones con ajo amazing. The place has everything you could wish for on a bar's menu, and does it all well. It's a million times better than any other bar in the immediate area, a handful of overpriced hangouts for people with more money than sense, and no taste in decor. If there was a themepark and i had to create a Spanish greasy bar cerca 1972, I’d just copy the place wholesale. One word of advice, don't try the house red.

Junk Club - You said it!
A calamari sandwich is a madrileño classic. Hot tasty and cheap, usually served by a sweaty bald guy with grease stains all over his shirt. They occupy a fond place in my heart between the patatas bravas and the chorizo frito.
The problem is that I don't go to restaurant like Junk Club to eat a Calamari Sandwich, and I don't go anywhere to be overcharged for anything.
I don’t think anyone minds paying for great food served in a nice atmosphere. The problem with Junk club is that haven’t managed to get the food bit right.

My Thai
I'm a big fan of Thai food and this place didn't disappoint. As i've never actually been to Thailand then I can't verify the authenticity of any of the dishes but they were all made with love and care. Fresh crunchy vegetables where applicable and melt in your mouth meat cooked in tasty broths. The food could be a little spicier but on the whole top marks.
The only bad point is that amount of tables they've crammed into the place. What could be a nice intimate area downstairs feels like a place where you'd go to eat a menú.

Como de Barrio
The best thing about El Frontón is that it's like being in one of those bars in some barrio. It's even got the dartboard at the back. It's kind of cutre but i prefer that to having to pay to get into some club to have a beer after three.
