It’s a place to enjoy tasty food, strong flavors, recipes with personality.
Viridiana (besides a Luis Buñuel movie) is a signature restaurant owned by Abraham García, one of the top Spanish chefs. It’s a classic, more than 30 years offerings his personal cuisine, and you can still find him almost everyday at Viridiana, cooking and chatting with the clients, suggesting the out-of-the-menu daily dishes, making the experience of eating at Viridiana more special, he is quite a character. It’s a place to enjoy tasty food, strong flavors, recipes with personality.
It’s an expensive restaurant, but the quality if the ingredients its really outstanding. Selected products, traditional recipes but with a personal fusion touch that makes the difference. It has 2 floors, I prefer upstairs, is more quiet, and the decoration is less traditional than downstairs, as it is a former cellar.
Try not to order too much as the food is strong, and they always serve some on-the-house appetizers. If you have never been before you have to try the Egg with Boletus and truffle mousse.
The cellar is superb, you can find really espectacular wines here, be careful with the price! :)
You’ll pay around 75€ per person, but it depends a lot on what you order. It worth a visit, at least, once in you life!
You should book before you go.

Best burger joint in Madrid,
Goiko Grill is the best burger joint in Madrid, a dozen burgers to choose from, or, customize your own if you like, and some appetizers, that’s it, simple, but superb. It’s great for a casual lunch or dinner with friends.
Great prices for great burgers. They have a place in María de Molina and a terrace in Conde de Peñalver, you also can take it away or order from home. You can book online if you want.

Peruvian restaurant, informal, always open
Tanta is a quality, Peruvian restaurant, informal, always open (from 13:30h-16h and from 20:30h-00h), big enough to find a table even a Friday night. Thee food is awesome, tasty, colorful, fresh and delicious.
I love the typical Papa bread that you get when you sit down.
They have a large selection of cebiches, last time we shared a Cebiche clásico (ceviche made with croaker a and tiger’s milk, the Peruvian term for the citrus-based marinade that cures the seafood). And also some Wantanes (pork and shrimp with tamarind sauce).
Main courses are amazing, I never know what to choose, my favorites maybe are: Lomo saltado (beef tenderloin, potatoes, onions, tomatoes, peppers and rice, wok made), Tallarines Saltados (Wok sauteed noodles with chicken, shrimp, onions, tomatoes and peppers) and Gaston Burger (Beef, lettuce, tomato, house sauce, creole sauce, fries and chimichurri), named for Gastón Acurio, the owner, that also owns Astrid & Gastón, another great Peruvian restaurant in Madrid.
They also have great desserts, I love the Chocolate soufle.
Usually, you can pay around 25€ each, weekdays they serve a lunch menu for 17€.
You can book online.

Finally amazing Ramen in Madrid
At last!!! we were all looking forward to this! finally good Ramen in Madrid, not only good, really amazing Ramen, and not only Ramen, also great Gyozas and awesome Baos. Chuka Ramen Bar remembers to those superb Ramen Bars you can find in Tokyo, but also to Momofuku, the famous David Chang restaurant, and the reason is that one of the chefs (John Husby) worked there, what good luck he decided to move to Spain :)
Gyozas are a great way to start, order both of them, Butifarra and Prawns, I can’t choose only one option.
If you want to try some more new-in-town dishes you can go with the Dok boki, a Korean recipe made with rice and chili.
And then, Ramen! they have 3 options: Shoyu (dashi and chicken soup with noodles, pork, egg and nori), Miso dashi (dashi and miso soup with noodles, vegetables and shiitake) or Hiyashi chuka (no soup, cold noodles, sausage, sichuán chili, watercress and sweet cashews).
I will also suggest you to order some Baos, there are amazing options as the pork one (David Chang’s iconic pork bun at Momofuku Noodle Bar) or the fried chicken bun. And if you can eat a little bit more, the Mochi doughnut, their only dessert, a rice pie with lime ice cream.
And this is not everything, they also have surprising Japanese beers worth trying.
The prices are very reasonable, 20-30€ per person.
My prayers have been answered, I can eat amazing Ramen at least in Madrid, thanks Chuka guys.
Booking is not possible, so go early to find a spot, there are less than 40 seats. It is open Tuesday through Saturday night and only noon on Fridays and Saturdays.

Excellent quality of the ingredients and innovative recipes done to perfection
You are going to enjoy Bacira from the entrance to the table talk. It’s a Mediterranean (with an Asian touch) restaurant, bright and fresh decorated in Chamberi neighborhood.
The secret: excellent quality of the ingredients and innovative recipes done to perfection. The place is so comfortable, the light, the space, you could eat here forever.
They offer a sample menu for 30€, and a daily menu for 14€. If you prefer to choose from the menu you can go for something light and fresh like Ceviche, or a typical Spanish recipe: Egg with bread (migas), potatoes and chorizo (we order half plates to try more dishes).
For main dishes I’ll suggest the Oaxtail meatballs, with mashed potato, it will melt in your mouth! Or you can try the Grilled smoked octopus, incredible soft.
Amazing desserts, so you have to make room for them.
It’s a great place to go with friends, family or your partner, the place will let you have a conversation, and if you go for lunch, the light from the windows will make you feel as good as the amazing food.

Mediterranean food in an unbelievable terrace
Iroco is a quiet restaurant, perfect for lunch or dinner plus conversation, great service, delicious Mediterranean style food, good price and with an unbelievable terrace inside an amazing patio in the middle of Madrid.
You can have half dishes if you want, great choice for sharing a salad, as the Crispy Chicken salad that I love, and Tomato with burrata.
For main dishes they have rice, pasta, meat, vegetables and meat to chose from. Rice “socarrat” with grilled prawns is amazing. Or you can order their famous Steak tartar. Or the Mini hamburgers with Miraflores cheese, they are a must.
The desserts are crazy, Chocolate “tronco” with olive oil ice cream or Lime biscuit glaccé are a sure win.
It’s a great idea have a cocktail, as the menu is really assorted and original, I always go with a Campari with orange juice, perfect aperitif.
Price is around 35€ each.
Booking is advisable, especially for the terrace in spring and summer. Enjoy!

Absolutely cutting edge, it worth the price.
In November 2009, Michelin awarded Diverxo their first Michelin star, in 2011, the second, and in November 2013, the third, and it’s surprising as it’s an atypical restaurant, non-traditional, non-luxury, it´s absolutely cutting edge. They say the food is Mediterranean with Chinese and Japanese influences, but is more than that, it must be extraterrestrial at least. David Muñoz is a genius.
Flavors you have never had before and you have never imagine surprise you bite by bite. You have 2 menus to chose from, the short one with 8 dishes and the long one with 11, and different from table to table depending on your taste, the number of visits… they recommend the short one for the first time.
I didn't take any picture, for 2 reasons, I was really busy delighting myself savoring and guessing every ingredient. The other reason is that I don’t want to spoil, keeping the secret of what you are going to find there increases the pleasure of the experience.
Make a reservation with months in advance, chose your menu, be open minded and enjoy, you will keep talking about it for months (until you get there again).
The menus are 115€ the short menu and 170€ the long menu, per person without wine.
If you want to get an idea of what is Diverxo without waiting to get a reservation and much cheaper, go to Streetxo, the “street-food” version of the main restaurant.

The best chocolate cake in the world is the name of this tiny charming shop in front of El Retiro park, they are not modest because they don’t need to, it is indeed the best chocolate cake in the world. They have 2 types of cakes in 2 sizes, one with 70% cocoa, the other with 53%, in 2 sizes (14 or 8 servings), or you can order a single portion, everything to take away (or delivery).
The cake has no flour or yeast and all its ingredients are of the highest quality: chocolate, butter, margarine, sugar, cocoa powder and egg. The creator of all this is a Portuguese named Carlos Braz that opened first in Lisbon and now we can enjoy it in Spain, USA, Brasil, Angola and Australia.
So, if you are near El Retiro, is not a better plan than looking for the hidden shop, order a portion and enjoy the best chocolate cake in the world resting under a tree in the park.

Spanish and Japanese flavors
Oribu means olive in Japanese, it describe perfectly what this gastrobar is: a perfect mix between Spanish and Japanese flavors. There are 3 lounges, the entrance with tall tables and stools for having something to eat from 4pm to 9pm, upstairs, with only 5 small tables, and the biggest lounge downstairs.
The mix is amazing, the Gyozas made with “Cocido” (typical Madrid broth made with meat, vegetables and chickpeas) are really good, the dough is thin, the stuffing is melty, and they serve it with fresh mint, coriander and soup, addictive!
Another must is the Spanish omelette, it is fried in tempura, very light.
Sushi is spectacular, “Boquerón” (anchovy) Hosomaki is amazing, and the dressing with the tuna and salmon nigiris crazy suitable.
For dessert they have also good choices, order the Pannacotta with violet ice cream, delicious.
For lunch they have a menu for a great price: 10,50€, for dinner it’d be around 30€ each.

Mexican food as a fine delicatessen
Punto MX makes you change your mind about the Mexican cuisine as you understood it. It’s the only restaurant I know that conceives Mexican food as a fine delicatessen, traditional and contemporary at the same time, amazing tasty ingredients for typical Mexican recipes combining traditional and cutting edge techniques. Maybe de “MX” stands for “mix” instead for “mex”.
While deciding what to eat I always order a La Virgen beer, a Madrid’s craft beer, with the complimentary starter.
The best opening is the Guacamole cart, I love it, the waiter come to your table and mix the delicious ingredients in front of you in the molcajete.
The plates usually have 2 portions to share, we started with Sopes with spicy (enchipotlados) shrimps and avocado.
Then Panuchos of cochinita pibil (pork). X’nipek with red onion and habanero chili.
My favorite, Tacos of green chorizo, San Simón cheese. Martajada sauce with toreado chiles (roasted jalapeño chiles).
Also Tacos of Galician octopus carnitas and chiles tatemados sauce.
This time they had Tamales, with huitlacoche mushrooms and it was crazy delicious! One portion is enough to share (also because we ordered too many other plates this night):
Although we had no room left we ordered a delicious dessert, Chocolate cake.
We paid 50€ each, and even though it’s not a budget price it’s one of the most difficult tables to book in Madrid, it can take months if you do it online (it’s easier to have lunch than dinner), or you have 2 options:
- call them on Mondays (there are some reserved tables that are released each Monday for the week): 91 402 2226 (from 12am to 10pm)
- go to the bar upstairs where you can (luckily) sit and enjoy their cocktails and Mexican tapas.
- take away
- small plates
- half dishes
- high price
