We had booked a table two days in advance, but when we arrived the two bartenders seemed puzzled to learn that there were bookings for the day at all (although they found mine quickly after that). Staff are a bit weird (the kind of waiters that write "una cerveza en copa pequeña" in its entirety on their notepad, before being able to raise their eyes and look at you again to hear what the second person wants to order...).

We ordered drinks and something "para picar": two "tostas", a platter of cheese, vegetable tempura. The smoked salmon on one of the toasts tasted funny; we did not finish it. The tempura tasted like a poor fry-up, and the other toast was covered in a bad "tranchete" of melted cheese... We did not eat much.

One good thing is that the bill was cheap: €52; we were five people, and had a couple of rounds of drinks.

It's a pity, because the venue does not look bad... It could be a fine place to have drinks and something to eat, were it not for the very poor quality of the food, and the weirdness of the service.

Pleasant environment, tasty American food

me encanta, uno de mis favoritos

Good American food (hamburgers, sandwiches, etc) and an oyster bar. TVs show sport events.

If the weather is nice, ask to get seated outside: there is no traffic (it's a pedestrian square right by the river), and the views are to the Hudson, New Jersey and (in the horizon), the Statue of Liberty.

Probamos varios pintxos espectaculares. Entre ellos, el de huevo frito (se toma de un bocado, la yema "explota" en la boca junto con el resto de ingredientes; delicioso y sorprendente).

Unpretentious place, excellent ramen

Tiny joint in Sangen-jaya, Setagaya; nothing remarkable about it from the outside. The inside is just a very narrow corridor with a bar on one side and eight stools very close to each other. Managed by one guy alone, who cooks rāmen in front of customers. Mostly "salarymen" having dinner alone, sometimes a couple, or two students. Nothing fancy, patrons enter and leave quickly; it would be weird to order a second round of drinks and stay for more than is necessary to slurp your rāmen.

Delicious rāmen in a few varieties: white, with broth, with tomato. The latter are my favourite. Perfect consistency, delicious pork, very tasty sauce. The cook is a young bloke, kind but discrete.

Buy the ticket from the vending machine right after the entrance, and hand it to the cook/waiter. If you are very hungry, order a large one; otherwise a regular size will do. Served with a complimentary little bowl of soup.

After a year and a half visiting the place, its opening hours are still a mystery to me. Better to call beforehand (especially since there's nothing touristy in the area, and it's unlikely you'll find yourself wandering around this part of Sangen-jaya, if not to have dinner here; Shibuya isn't too far by bus/underground, though).
